Group Safety Officer

About the Role

Join our group operations team as a Safety Officer, where your responsibilities will include:

• Collecting and analysing safety data.
• Stop work if unsafe and facilitate accident investigations.
• Carry out statutory inspections.
• Compile safety reports and verify compliance to safety systems.
• Be responsible for the discussion, recording & sign-off of findings.
• Collate and capturing of information & close out of previous findings.
• Conduct actual investigations (damages, MTCs, FAC’s & near misses)
• Finalising reports and getting signoff and copies of associated documents
• Follow up on corrective actions.
• Engage with and assist department managers with the completion, submission, and approval of safety files.
• Facilitate the Investigation and submission of High Potential Hazards
• Define and support actions on a Safety Improvement Plan (SIP)
• Active participation in Safety initiatives (e.g.: VFL & STEPS)
• Conduct Internal Audits in respective areas.
• Co-ordinate the Emergency drills


Requirements

You will need the following:

 

  • Relevant National diploma in Safety Management /Risk Management or relevant equivalent qualification

  • Valid driver’s license

  • You will be required to pass a medical fitness certificate to be considered for this position.

  • COMSOC I & II or equivalent, SAMTRAC & OSHAS 18 001 Certificates will be advantageous.

  • Prince2 and SixSigma Certificates will be advantageous.

  • Certificate of training in ISO14001 and 45001 Safety management Systems and integrated internal auditing will be advantageous.

  • Train the Trainer experience.

  • Auditor’s courses for Safety and Risk Control management.

  • Risk Assessment Techniques: (SWIFT, HAZOP and FMECA).

  • Accident investigation (ICAM/RCAT/SCAT).

  • Fire (Intermediate fire – FPA) and First Aid.

  • Computer literate (MS Office and Projects).

  • Cloud based safety management systems experience advantageous.

  • 3 years’ experience in the safety management -mining environment

  • Knowledge of Mine Health and Safety Act (Act 29 of 1996) and other related legislation

  • Computer Literacy: MS Office: (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Presentation / Facilitation/ Training.

  • Investigation and report writing experience.
